A BIT OF HISTORY
The Piazza Tasso is "born" in the nineteenth century following the urban changes that occurred in Sorrento. Initially its name was Largo del Castello. Originally, in fact, where today stands the statue of St. Antonino, there was a castle dating from the time of Ferdinand of Aragon (XV century) which was demolished in 1843. In 1844 they proceeded to the demolition of the walls built along the valleys , dating back to the sixteenth century, and who had played the role of defense against incursions.
Finally in 1866 it was demolished the gateway to the city from the eastern side, called Porta del Piano, on top of which stood the statue of St. Anthony in tuff. The statue was removed by its creator and A. Torres and was placed on a pillar built at the hotel Rispoli. In 1870 it was inaugurated the monument to Torquato Tasso. In the same period, after which the town council decided to open a new road, were built, often by the rehabilitation of existing buildings, all nineteenth-century buildings bordering the present Corso Italy.
The Crystal Palace was already in the XVI century and was located just outside the main gate of the walls of Sorrento. It is part of the ancient Roman era tanks called "cisterns"
The cisterns are hydraulic structures built in Roman times. They are large covered tanks that were used to supply drinking water the settlements that were scattered along the coast of the peninsula, and which consisted mainly in large suburban villas built for idleness of noble or wealthy families who found here the best living conditions that could imagine (they were noble courtiers in tow Emperor who, in turn, preferred to these lands for their amenities, or valiant generals who had conquered the wealth thanks to their victorious military companies).
The cisterns still continue to perform their function very well. The water came from sources in the territory of the actual "Piano di Sorrento", from which a pipeline is then developed to a length of about five miles. They take their names from the lords who were the owners of those horti in the seventeenth century, but were built in Roman times, along the aqueduct that fed them, said the Formiello. The water complex of the Roman era tanks is immediately after to the angle Corso Italy with Piazza Tasso, below the gardens and areas partly private and partly municipal.
The Cisternoni of Spasiano, because of their importance and size are a testimony to the development achieved by the cities in the Augustan age, when the lands of the Sorrento Peninsula were assigned to veterans and on the coast were built numerous and large residential complexes. Today there are two cisterns: the first consisting of nine "chambers," which is still used for the water supply of Marina Grande and Marina Piccola; the other ten "chambers," in a state of complete abandonment. High capacity, is a work brickwork parallelogram-shaped with barrel vaulted ceilings and covered in a hard mortar, were certainly restored under Antoninus Pius, as shown by the discovery of an inscription carved on a fistula lead acquaria, now preserved in the Correale Museum.
The cisterns have a special feature that has run it to this day and that they can still carry out their task: the interior walls are covered with a thick layer of plaster which has the characteristic of being extremely hard and tough, designed to ward off risks of cracks or depletion of the coating. These types of systems were part of the normal technological expertise of the Roman engineers who disseminated them for the entire empire but especially in the conquered lands in Africa, where (as seen in the archaeological findings of Carthage) were used as catalysts before and then as batteries water.

Everything was wonderful, especially: -the warm welcome from the proprietors -the beautiful, very clean, very spacious and comfortable room w/ every amenity I could want -the lovely terrace overlooking the lovely church across the street -an excellent entertainment system w/ Netflix in the room and -the delicious home-made breakfast. Il Giardino Segreto achieves both a feeling of luxury and a refreshing personal touch. Traveling alone, it was nice to encounter such friendly and available hosts while also having a delightful private space to retreat to. Grazie, Vera e Antonino!!!

2018, January 2 - Beyond!.
The room was excellent. The property owners have invested so much to make this place amazing from beds to the linens to the breakfast everything was beyond. Their common space is always filled up with tea, coffees cookies to munch on. They provided us with complementary sparkling wine to celebrate new years's eve. And we were also invited to a special dinner at their friends place. It was the best new year we spent so far. All thanks to the hosts and the house we stayed.

2017, July 7 - 3 days in Sorrento.
My husband & I ended our 20 day trip to Italy with a 3 night stay in Sorrento in the Olivio room. The room was quite large & very modern with great lighting and a very comfy king size bed. Their are French doors leading to a separate porch that was perfect for morning and evening relaxing. Our room did not overlook the street, which made it very private and quiet. The adjoining bathroom had a large walk in shower and luxurious towels and bath products. This was our first time to Sorrento and Vera provided us with helpful information on where to go and what to see. We did a day trip to Pompeii and another to Capri. Breakfast was plentiful - Antonino's brioche was light and oh so delicious! Vera offered my husband (a diabetic) eggs, cheese and meats every morning. The b&b is a 5 minute walk to the train station and to the piazza where we enjoyed strolling and dining. If we return to Sorrento, we will definitely stay here again!

2017, July 4 - Il Giardino Segreto.
"Il Giardino Segreto" was by far the best place we have stayed at. Vera and Antonino are such beautiful people, they were so accomodating. The room was extremely clean, tastefully designed, modern and with very comfortable beds. Breakfast was magnificent and was freshly prepared each morning with homemade jams, bread rolls, pancakes, cheese, cold cut meat and beautiful home made cakes, cappuccino, assorted local juices and more! Couldn't have asked for any better. Top location in the heart of the city and minutes walk to beach and train station. Vera and Antonino made our children very welcome and the children adored them. We will definitely be back! Thank you!

This B&B is very new and modern. Everything about our room was so very pleasant and sparkling clean! The location was spectacular, just steps away from great restaurants and shopping. We could walk everywhere and a convenient jump-off spot for the Amalfi coast! Our hosts were most accommodating and we enjoyed visiting with the other guests over breakfast.

Posto davvero MERAVIGLIOSO!!!
Cosa non mi è piaciuto??? Beh...andar via!!!

2016, July 26 - Fantastic rooms and great location in Sorrento.
This is the best B&B that we have ever stayed at! The rooms were completely renovated and were meticulously clean, the bathrooms were spacious and comfortable, and the location was as central as it gets. The bed was comfortable, sheets and towels clean and fresh, air-con was good, and windows provided good noise insulation. The hosts were extremely nice and they even made us pancakes for breakfast. We would definitely stay there again.

2016, July 16 - A lovely B&B stay in Sorrento.
Vera and Antonino were very welcoming, kind and helpful in many ways. Breakfast was always lovely, fresh and nicely served. Vera even prepared something for me the night before my departure since I had to leave at 6 AM. That was more than any guest could expect. My room was spacious and clean, bathroom newly renovated with very nice fixtures. The TV was high tech/quality sound, the AC worked very well and there was a large terrace off my room overlooking part off the beautiful church in piazza Tasso. The church bells were beautiful to hear. There are beautiful plants including basil, lounge chairs, a table for having you're breakfast outside, and even an outdoor shower! I also appreciated the drying rack.
